I was thrilled that Adele won the Golden Globe for Skyfall. It is a beautiful piece of music and I was rooting for her. I saw the movie last month and loved it. It's the first Bond film I've seen in ages, being a die-hard Sean Connery fan when it comes to Bond, and I've not cared for the other Bonds. But our current Mr. Bond is perfect.

While watching, I stitched.

This long weekend (today is a civic holiday) has been about feathers.
My longtime friend sent me another feather from her backyard in Australia and it set me off. I painted two feathers on a postcard for her, and started stitching another on a piece of antique linen.

This next piece was inspired by a huge pieced fabric by Julia Griffiths Jones depicting aspects of a collection at the National Wood Museum of Wales.

 My three days in Wales this summer yielded so many intangible treasures. One tangible treasure is the striped blue and cream Welsh wool scraps in this quilt, courtesy of my friend who generously let me have some.

Work in Progress. A good occupation for a cloudy, sometimes rainy, Saturday.
I cut the pieces of old linen before I dyed them because I wanted the edges to get some colour, too. Then I stitched them down on a heavy background fabric, another old piece of very fine Japanese wool fabric, so fine that it feels almost like cotton. There's a LOT of stitching to be done and some embroidery and applique.

 Before I go to bed at night, I make something. It's a habit. Lately I seem to be channelling Tina Berning in my own clumsy way.

Friday's child

My Thursday post disappeared into Blogger's black hole....I saw it briefly yesterday and then Blogger went into problem mode, and pouf! post gone.

So now it's Friday.
The work in progress that I posted yesterday is finished. It was about using tears and holes in old fabric as part of the overall picture.

I also did some free-form stitching; a little woodland creature..... (the faeries have gone to lunch).

Hither and thither

This week is mostly about tidying up before a short trip south next week, a little vacation courtesy of my dear friend who is wintering in Florida and is giving me a few days of warmer weather as well as her precious company.
My right arm is aching, so it's in need of a rest!

Not that work stops. Not at all. This is a detail of the third quilt. The vintage donut is one of a pile that my friend Janey gave me at Silver Bella last year. Hello Chicago!!!

Life goes on

It's a bright, sunny, cold and invigorating day.
This quiltie (detail) has a lightly stuffed heart. It makes it 3-D but no glasses needed!!!
I find that more and more I'm sewing my quilts by hand rather than machine. I like the quiet rhythm of it.
