New little works

It's safe to say that making my quilties is keeping my spirits up at the moment. I sometimes wonder how it would be if I didn't have art in my life -- perish the thought! Better not to go there.

I tried something new -- embroidering with my sewing machine. My machine is fairly basic, so free form doesn't always work for me. Instead, I stamped a Catherine Moore stamp lightly onto cotton muslin and went from there. The words are by the Irish Post Office, stamped on a recent letter that arrived from Ireland.

  1. I love the way you did the Catherine Moore stamp. It's very perfect!

You could also try something in Photoshop: convert your image to a line drawing and lighten the contrast so that it barely shows on the fabric, print that line drawing on fabric and quilt it just like you did the stamp! I did that with a photo of my son and it came out so lovely! I wrote an article about it in Creative TECHniques Magazine last year or the year before. I can probably send you the instructions if you want them!

  5. Love your freestyle Colette... must be the thing! I had a go at it this week too for a fabric book I'm doing. Loved it, but not very good at it yet. Must go down to my local Bernina shop and find out how to do it properly!!!
    Loving these new quilties.

  7. Do you have a way to drop the feed dog on your sewing machine? When you do then you can easily manipulate the fabric around on your own for free form sewing.
    LOve your work sweet Colette!
    XOXOXO
