Last night I sorted out the papers that have piled up over the years:all kinds of vintage and antique papers, postcards and envelopes, photos and ... oh, there you are!! my little tintype collection. I also went through a folder where I've been saving those free art papers from Somerset Studio. This one was by Sally Jean, whose collage work I love and I got to tell her so in person a few years ago. I didn't want to cut it up, so I used it as background to a drawing.

 Then there was this handwritten letter sometime in the 1950s that started with the greeting: Howdy. I folded it into a boat and glued it to a piece of painted mat board.

How I wound down and abolished the day's stress last night. I followed a tutorial on crescendoh.com and folded paper. As I was making them, I caught myself humming a childhood tune. I could still remember the words...

Friday's child

So I came across these tiny paper bags, and I looked at them, should I save them, should I not? Kitchen or studio? Then that mysterious part of me took over, the part of me that says "do this, do that" and I obey without hesitating. I fashioned a mini "mushroom" -- and then tied some string around the stem and secured it. I added a small lace doily on the top, and finished it with an antique millinery leaf and vintage seam binding. Et voilà! A very pretty flower.
