Sneak peek.

Details of a series of waxy paintings that I'm working on, the project that I intend to finish and ship by the end of the week.

It's hard to believe that it's already Friday. This week has sped by so fast; I want to say faster than usual, but that's probably just my perception, and perceptions can be inaccurate.
Anyway..... my cloth is progressing slowly.

And I've been painting, tweaking some existing techniques and doing things backwards to see what happens. I think I'm more of a tweaker than an inventor, although tweaking can sometimes lead to something new. I do the same with recipes and cooking.

Wishing you a pleasant weekend.

Greeting the dawn.
Grateful for a new day.
Grateful for another chance to do things right.

C for colour, C for collage. And then, there are my initials...

 Have a happy day!

I rarely have a plan when I paint/draw/collage. I just pick up a brush/pencil/pen and go.
On those rare occasions when I do have a plan, it's more of an idea, a flash of something, an owl's face perhaps. The rest follows naturally.

Feeling happy. I know one person who will approve -- when she calls, she frequently asks me if I'm happy. It must be a Welsh thing.

I painted this the other day. I felt like working on something big.

Cheers!

Confused? So is this owl.
In some cultures, it's a symbol of wisdom, in others, well, bad medicine.
All I know is that when I was in the Brownies, we learned to hoot like an owl...

Stitching: work in progress

Have a lovely day.

I spent the better part of the weekend painting. I have a couple of possible entries for the AWOL Show, but I also painted smaller pieces that I collaged.

I've been keeping an eye out for her for years; I didn't search too hard, I knew I would recognize her when I found her. My inspiration, alter ego, call her what you will. Finally, there she was, calling out to me from an old photograph. She came to me from France, and she has settled in nicely. Her name is a mystery. I haven't named her because she already has a name, even though I don't know it, and I'm respecting that.

The antidote

One of the rewards and great joys of my work is the feedback I get. The person who bought my bird book, a collaged and painted book of some 20 collages, a collector and friend (and, I should add, one of my customers who keeps me afloat, otherwise I truly would be "starving"!!) wrote me a note that included this: "Thank you enormously for the bird artist's book. ... The collection is very special. Your expression of bird art is so enjoyable because it has warmth and frankness, lot of love (without being overly cute). Rather realist. I am cheered when I look at such creativity and it helps pull me out of whatever low state I feel."

And that is always my goal. Not just to make my living, but to make others happy with my work!

Thank you Dr. T. in Sydney. You truly made my day, my week, my month.............

No. 2 in a series

MM on canvas, available at Etsy
It's been such a good day. Freezing cold, but good! Not least of all because I finished #2 in my laundry line series. Hate to spoil the photo with the copyright, but I have to...

Canvas, fabric and paper

[(c) colette copeland. Available on eBay]

Often when I photograph my work, I lay it out on the floor, and invariably my feet end up in the picture. This time I put them on canvas in this mixed media work on an 11 x 14-inch flat piece of canvas.
