Bláthanna

For a long time, more than a year, I haven't want to paint or draw or even write. It was as if all my creative juices had drained away. I told myself it was temporary, most artists and writers go through this, but after a year I began to wonder if this wasn't the end and I was on the verge of shutting down this blog. Not that anyone, except a friend or two, ever check in (merci, Jacqueline). I had nothing to offer, nothing to say.

Then a few days ago, fed up with the seemingly endless grey skies day after day, I pulled out my tubes of acrylics and watercolours and started painting imaginary flowers. Putting down colours to counter the winter greys. I painted one and then another. A few days later, I painted another one. A few days after that, I painted a couple more.

I call this series "Imagining a Flower". They are a good way to exercise the imagination and try out colour combinations.

The Irish word Bláthanna refers to blossoms or blooms, often symbolizing warmth, kindness, and tenderness.

It felt good; I may never recover the passion I had before when I painted daily, when it excited me and I couldn't wait to get to my art table and create and experiment. But I'll be happy if I can recapture even a little bit of that old passion and turn it into a regular thing.
