Imaginary Beings

Regarding yesterday's post, CaptainSparrow said I should throw myself a party "because people like to give gifts." It had a certain tone to it that made be laugh; today it still has me smiling.

Meanwhile, I'm drawing my imaginary birds. My aunt, who in her retirement years moved from Paris to Brussels, would be happy. She encouraged me to be free-hand, and whenever I boxed in a watercolor sketch, she would tell me straight out that she didn't like it. "Get rid of the box", she would say. She knew her art, but unlike many of her generation, she encouraged me to break the rules if they didn't make sense to me; to be free with my strokes and to go where no man has ever gone bef.......oops! No, that was space travel.
