Annie Get your Dictionary

For CH, PP, and a few others: this is for you.

Maverick: The original maverick is, actually, Samuel Maverick, born in 1803, a slave-owning Texas Democrat who put the name into popular usage because he refused to brand his cattle -- thus wayward animals wandering the range aimlessly with no sign of where they belonged were called, in his honor, Maverick cattle.

Yippee kiyay.

That's all folks!
