Wax Art Part Deux

A number of years ago, I came across some "art bundles": little "sculptures" made of paper and newsprint turned into bundles, glued closed, painted, and tied with string, labels and other little objects. In their heart, under all that paper, glue and paint, was a note or image from the artist. Of course you couldn't see it, it was the mystery within. I was fascinated enough to make my own art bundles, and gave them as gifts.

Hanne's waxed packets remind me of these bundles and that's why I like them so much. (I'm a big fan of Hanne; her work speaks very clearly to me, possibly because it reflects my own likes and sensibilities.)

I made this one as a mother's day bundle. Before I waxed the fabric, I burned a small hole in it to create a little "window." I love how it turned out. It was time-consuming because I'm still learning to handle the wax, but it is so exciting to be creating these, I mean, I'm excited like a child! Thank you, Hanne, for all the inspiration.

  1. These wax packets of yours are making me want to get out the beeswax and melting pot. Mmmm...I can almost smell it melting right now!

  2. I really love these waxed bundle creations Colette. It's like the feeling you have when there's a Christmas present under the tree but you can't open it yet. Somehow this is better though because it's ongoing and delicious anticipation.

  5. I saw these packets a while ago on Hanne's blog and wondered what they were. VERY mysterious and delicious eye candy. I too love her work - the colors and the worn love I guess.
