Friday's child

It was a good day, topped off by organic strawberries prepared in a delicious way. Organic strawberries are small and sweet, which is not the case with a lot of other strawberries; bigger is not better.

So, I hulled a couple of handful of strawberries, cut them in half, placed them in a bowl and drizzled a tablespoon of a very good balsamic vinegar, a touch of salt, and mixed gently. At this stage you're supposed to let them sit for a while, but I was too impatient. I ate them right away and they were mouthwateringly good.

I love salads, I often make them up as I go along. Here's one that I tasted recently and I loved it so much, I make it often. You take curly kale, cut it in strips, and steam just until the edge is gone (you don't want it cooked, just blanched to soften it a tad). Grate some cooked beets and raw carrot and toss with the kale. Drizzle some extra-virgin olive oil over it, lemon juice to taste, and season with salt and pepper.

Once I finished eating, I listed some items on eBay, and worked on some watercolors.

Life is good.

  1. I sometimes do strawberries in Grand Marnier and port. yum!
I have just planted a whole bed of strawberry plants with heirloom plants - so that I can have organic strawberries next summer

  2. Sounds so delicious Colette! I have not tried the balsamic on strawberries but everyone says it is just decadent. I toss a few berries in Breyers vanilla ice cream. Pretty plain but oh so yummy! Your salad ideas sound wonderful!
