Books on my mind

Up until about a year and a half ago, I occasionally made a journal/gluebook out of vintage and new papers, torn and cut, with the occasional tag and envelope (to tuck things into), using cardstock as covers. I made about 10 of them, like this one. They did quite well, although they weren't cost-effective: too much work for too little return. Still, there was the pleasure factor (I love making things that I would want for myself).

This book had some damage in the interior, so cut out the pages I could use, detached the covers, and created another journal/gluebook. It has some funky old Cunard Shipping Lines ephemera, and an old, used trunk tag, with the passenger's name written on the back, whose string you can see at the top. While the earlier ones looked new, this one looks old, like something a great-aunt may have passed down to you. The idea is to add to it; some pages you can write notes on, others you can glue things on, and there are a couple of heavy pieces of printing paper to draw or paint on.

  1. what a wonderful idea. I've been keeping my hands on a wonderful looking book that is simply titled "The Classroom Teacher". The inner pages are only an index to some sort of set of encyclopedias or somesuch, and was wooooondering what to do with it for myself...this may be a really great idea - pages from other things and envelopes and such...Thank you for sharing!

  3. Fabulous. I see these tucked in an ancient bureau wrapped in light blue tissue and a lace ribbon. They are full of the mystery and beauty of an artist and writer waiting to be discovered. They look so old and have "place". You are a true romantic soul!
