The view from here

The winter thaw gave way to the Big Wet, sodden parks and lawns, leaden skies, and weary bodies. Mostly I've been working to restock my shop, and I've been resetting my internal clock -- no more sweatshop hours, more structure to my time, and I've begun the process of spring cleaning.

Meanwhile I dream of a spacious atelier painted antique white, with hardwood floors, a long work table again one wall covered from one end to the other with slanted windows to let in the natural light, built-in book cases for supplies and books, my easel and canvasses and painting supplies stand with a canvas dropcloth on the floor occupying the length of another wall, and a little rest area with an overstuffed shabby-gorgeous couch to rest on, a round table, fresh flowers, a little fridge (stocked, of course), coffee making implements, old threadbare Oriental carpets thrown here and there. No music paraphernalia because I prefer to work in total silence.

Spring slowly comes in and change everything. Spring cleaning always reminds me of little house on the praire, I don't know why.

  9. Your dream atelier sounds like a little slice of heaven. And like you, I prefer to work in silence. I can write in the midst of chaos and noise (all those years at newspapers), but I prefer silence. Beautiful collage.
