Saturday

The faint dusting of snow has gone, temperatures are rising. Very unseasonal.

My flamenco class was cancelled but I only found out when I got to the studio. So I did some grocery shopping, came home and made things (to be photographed and shown tomorrow).

Then I spent some time on the phone with one of my oldest friends, in Washington, D.C. Well, we're no longer in Washington: she's in Falls Church, Va., and I'm in Toronto. She is going through medical treatment for breast cancer and doing very well, considering that she has also had after-effects of polio since childhood. I'm horrified at the insurance administration though; so much expense on her part even though she has "good" insurance, and having to deal with paperwork and mistakes every other day.....it puts more stress on her. We are really so well off in Canada with our universal health care.
Tomorrow, I'm going to put a care package together for her, filled with her favorite things; she adores Crunchie chocolate bars, chocolate-coated Digestive biscuits and other British items that she can't always get but which are available anywhere here and at normal prices. Plus some good old Canadian Red Rose tea and a tin of Fry's Cocoa. She loves Yorkshire tea, but I have no idea what that is except that you can only find it in England. I should add that she was born in Yorkshire, but has lived in the U.S. for most of her adult life. She is one of the strongest people I know, tough but with a very generous heart. Now it's my turn to be there for her.

And that was my day!
