Memories

Visiting my friend at l'atelier de figue I was reminded of French traditions at Epiphany and got a huge blast from the past. On Jan. 6, the Epiphany, the misletoe is burned in the fireplace, and the galette des rois, a sort of pie in which a bean is hidden, is eaten. The person who gets the bean is crowned king. It's a great blend of old and new, the misletoe being druidic and all. I like traditions and rites, especially when they're pleasant ones. I don't have a galette des rois, do I'll just settle for...cake.
