 On my easel

Painting a background, I first pick my colours and apply them with a light hand. The colours have to go together, otherwise you get mud. Titanium white is my great ally. Then I examine it from all angles. And I keep going until I know it's enough. If an idea comes to mind while I'm doing this, great. If not, it will sit there until it finds it subject. Meanwhile the joy is in the smooshing of paint over the canvas.

Simplicity is the removal of the useless and the unnecessary--source unknown
