Bijou, caillou, chou, genou, hibou, joujou, pou. Every French schoolgirl learns this list of words by heart; they are the nouns that unlike other nouns ending in -ou, take an "x" in the plural. In school we learned to say the words very fast so that they almost sounded like one word. Hibou is the word for owl, so whever I see or draw an owl, it automatically comes to mind. It's amazing what the brain will retain.

So here's another hibou, this one painted with watercolors.

Simplicity is the removal of the useless and the unnecessary--source unknown

  1. I LOVE your hibou (and now I know the french word for owl...thank you ... merci).
I have always loved owls and when visiting France about six years ago stayed for a few days in Dijon. There were little brass owls embedded into the footpath (showing the tourist route). I loved Dijon!

  5. There is a strong possibility that I wasn't concentrating or learnt it in the wrong order because it felt more comfortable to say !
