Natural dyeing No. 2

I wanted to try marigolds to get a soft yellow. I couldn't find any right away so I tried another yellow flower. It didn't work so I threw in some turmeric. The trouble is that I forgot to check it in time and when I pulled out the fabric: Pow! Blinded by yellow.

Today we stopped in at an Anthropologie and I saw that same yellow everywhere. The yellow is darker/brighter than in this photo.......... Ironically, this was the yellow I really wanted.

  3. Your yellows and pinks are perfect! I had a disaster with the avocado yesterday. I left my pan boiling away, decided to change the background on my blog ... fiddling about I forgot all about the pan and it boiled to nothing and ruined the pan too!

In the next few weeks the orange montbretia / crocosmia flowers will be blooming and they give the most wonderful yellow dye. I shall be dyeing a job lot of fabrics with it to use in my erosion bundle journal

Happy Sunday and Happy 4th July xxxx

  5. I have to try this. we have lots of marigolds around our garden. They are their as "sacrifice" plants, the slugs eat them instead of the Veggies. My husband won't be happy about his sacrifice for art. I'm stunned about the avocado skin making pink dye. Off to buy an avocado!
    Jill,
P.S. your fabrics turned out fab! great dreamy colors.
