Random acts of kindness
On Sunday, in the quiet of the afternoon, I went to the subway to get a train downtown. As I approached the entrance, I noticed a woman sitting outside, as if waiting for someone. As I got closer, she stood up and waved a piece of paper at me. I thought she wanted directions.
She held out a Day Pass, and said: "Are you going on the subway?
I said Yes.
She said: "Would you like this pass? I'm done for the day and it doesn't expire until midnight."
I looked at the token I was holding, wondering if she expected to sell the pass to me.
"You might as well use it," she continued and gave me the pass. "I don't want to throw it away." And off she went.
"I'll pass on the kindness," I called after her.
And so I did.

isn't it amazing how a gesture like that can change how we view the whole rest of our day? A random act of simple kindness is often more valuable than being handed an expensive gift. It made me smile.
