Hearts

I love hearts. When I did illustration work, I painted a lot of hearts. One of my heart pieces was purchased by a Swiss in Munich to use on a set of 25 T-shirt for a parade. I forget about these things; it reminds me of the time I was the francophone editor on Air Canada's inflight magazine. We were asked to do little bios for advertising purposes. I wrote a paragraph on myself and sent it along to the publisher. The publisher, who knew me well, sent it back with a note in the margin. "Include the two books you translated for Macmillan, Stupid!!!" It wasn't rude, it was appropriate. I tend to hide my light under a bushel. But I'm learning, now that I have to be my own agent and promoter.

  1. You are right. Even though it is not the way we were raised, we must learn to "toot our own horn"!

I love these, esp. the unfinished look and the combinations of fabrics...nice job!

  6. Love the folk art look of all the hearts and glad to hear you are using your stash - so they are green hearts in a way. I try and use hearts on a lot of my work - hearts and crowns seem to go together. You produce so much work and all beautiful. Lovely art cards too.

  7. This is the part I am NOT good at whatsoever. I may show things but I am horrid about promoting, sending things in for publication, even getting that Etsy shop open. Self promotion and self marketing is something I sorely lack. Perhaps it is as Lila said, we are raised not to toot our own horns.
    I need lessons!
    XOXOXOXO

  9. The hearts are wonderful - and self-promotion doesn't come easily to any of us - but it's necessary, especially when you're a freelancer! xoxox
